IPAD? I DUNNO ...

Posted by: Maureen Holloway | Jan 28 2010 12:00AM

I was kind of excited about the launch of Apple's new product - the Ipad, as it's to be called, although I'm not crazy about the name. Conjures up promises of freshness and confidence and not wanting to go to gym class. While I'm on the subject, I can't hear the word "crampon" without giggling. This is what you get when you go mountain climbing at that time of the month.

ANYway. The Ipad. I think I want one, because I've been looking for a travel solution to my laptop. My laptop is just too heavy, and it's too valuable, and given that I do a fair amount of traveling, especially in the summer when I go up to the cottage and back, I think I could use something that will allow me to download books and magazines and movies and browse the web and do email. On the other hand, it's expensive. I'm already putting the Rogers grandchildren through college as it is - do I really want to fork over additional monthly fees? Furthermore, we don't even know when Canadian carriers will commit to the Ipad, let alone when the thing will even be available here. So there's that. Best to think on it while everyone gets their Ish*t together.

Speaking of gadgets, when I figure out where I left my camera, i will post some pictures from Arizona. I haven't even unpacked yet. My suitcase is sitting over there spilling laundry and making me feel guilty. I'm sure you already know what Arizona looks like - very red and dry with prickly stuff sticking up all over it. Interestingly, while I was there, I looked much the same (red and dry with prickly stuff).

From the reviews I've read, there are lots (too many) questions to make this product a winner, but hey, advertising can overcome any obstacle and make the yuppies (read zombies) buy your product... How much did Apple spend on product placement last night at the Grammies???

The iPad does sound like a sanitary product and as for your suitcase and laundry...will you be needing those 'warm weather clothes' anytime soon? I think not - let them sit and don't worry!

About that drive Mo....I complain that I am the loneliest golfer since I may not be able to hit far on that fairway but I do hit straight....and therfore I spend most of the game right in the middle of the fairway...BY MYSELF. All my male friends are in the woods or sand traps or heaven knows where...but they ARE NOT on the fairway. I have decided I am going for accuracy - not distance! LOL Lynn

Hey Mo, why not sell the cottage to pay for it all? I don't know why you would want to take the infernal gadget with you for time with nature and relaxation.

So how was the golf? And your back?

Maureen Holloway: The golf was great, my back is actually fine, my putting is much improved, but I lost my drive somewhere along the way.

Mo I am convinced the companies like Apple just keep coming out with these gadgets to make whatever we have now obsolete.Although it would be great will wait on this one untill they have been out awhile.

I like the I-Pad too - but remember when the first I-Pod came out - and how cool it was - but then how old it looked when the 2nd gen came out? For the price, I think I'll hold off. Get a Netbook. They are small and adorable and can do pretty much everything your laptop can do - and are under $300.
